The Senate passed a measure (98-0) Thursday that would stop government agencies from using taxpayer funds to disguise video press releases as real news. The amendment writes into law a Government Accountability Office opinion that said the Bush administration has violated rules against "publicity and propaganda" with releases from several agencies.

Rep. F. James Sensenbrenner III, R-Wis., chairman of one of the entertainment industry's most important congressional committees, told cable industry executives attending the National Cable & Telecommunications Assn. conference here on Monday that criminal prosecution would be a more efficient way to enforce the indecency regulations. I'd prefer using the criminal process rather than the regulatory process, Sensenbrenner said.
